October 17, 2017 Campus Messenger - Band Updates

Hello band parents and students:

Please find below some important information and reminders about upcoming band events.

1. Sousa-Style Concert - This Sunday, the MHS Wind Ensemble is presenting a concert in the classic Sousa style.  It will be a fast-paced program with marches, symphonic works, and several featured guest artists including: Carl Rowe, former solo trumpet with the US Marine Band "President's Own," and our own Justin Wilder, MHS choral director.  Everyone is highly encouraged to attend even if you're not performing.

October 22nd, 4:00pm (performers report 3pm).  $10 suggested donation.  Performers wear all black.

2. Cardinal Showcase features our 9th grade musicians.  October 24th at 7:30 (performers report at 6:50).  Wear "dress nice" (collared shirt, nice pants/shoes, etc.)

3. Parent-Teacher Conferences - If you/your student is considering a degree or career in music, please strongly consider scheduling a time with us at conferences on Oct. 18 or 25.  (We have some open blocks tomorrow - just give us a call.)  This especially applies to juniors and seniors but is a good idea for all grades.  We are also happy to meet for other reasons but wanted to stress the importance of meeting early to prepare for college music study.

4. Pep Band - The pep band season has not officially started, but students are already signing up in the band room.  Each student in band is required to sign up for at least two games before winter break and two games after.  (Many students choose to attend many more for fun, service learning hours and band award points.)  Please check the schedule and plan accordingly.

Students should also consider attending the football game this Friday, especially if they may have conflicts during the winter pep band season.  Report time 6:00, all band students welcome.  5. Volunteer Form - If you haven't yet, please consider filling out the parent volunteer form.  Your bandstudents appreciate the help!  6. Website - Make sure to check out the new website at - it's your one-stop shop for calendars, sign-ups, general information and more!
