Hi Orchestra Families!
Topics covered below:
Solo & Ensemble
WSMA, our state music organization, is running 2 virtual Solo & Ensemble cycles this school year. Cycle A will be in the Fall, Cycle B in the Spring. All MHS Orchestra students are required to prepare a solo from the WSMA Festival List for Semester 1, and taking part in WSMA S&E is only one of the four ways to demonstrate their learning. In other words, S&E is optional and strongly encouraged for all students. THIS DOCUMENT contains all the information, so please read it carefully.
We are offering Orchestra Spiritwear again this fall. In fact there are 2 slightly separate sales going on:
Through our local company Top Promotions, we are offering some of the same favorites from past years and some new items as well.
We have added some of our old favorites (t-shirts, long sleeve tees, hoodies, polos) in a new color: Cardinal Red
Some of the added items include face masks, earbud cases, a coffee tumbler, a tote bag, and flannel shirts and lunge pants.
These items will arrive before Winter Break and we will figure out to get them to families.
This portion will be up and running on the Band & Orchestra Booster web page in the next few days (we are waiting on the official art from Top Promotion--soon!) and run through Sat 11/28
Through a company in NJ, we are offering 50"x60" stadium blankets!
We have wanting to offer blankets for a few years now and finally found a vendor to work with.
These blankets feature our GREAT LOGO in large size.
These will be shipped right to your home.
Buy yours at: https://mhsofall2020.itemorder.com/sale
The blankets will be available through Tues 11/24 .
If you are a family in need, please contact me for scholarship options--we want everyone to be able to show MHS ORCHESTRA PRIDE !
Philomusica is working on 2 projects at the same time right now.
First, we are working on a performance video project with Mark Wood (founding violinist of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra) over the next few months, spending an evening in December hanging around with him, working on our music over a few sessions in January, and culminating with a video release party in early March. Any MHS string musician can take part in this super opportunity. Not a member of Philo yet? Just come to a meeting!
Second, we are working on a project to provide music to our district elementary students who will be missing our on Winter Teas, a favorite event at Sauk Trail, Sunset Ridge, and West Middleton and a favorite of orchestra students. We had hoped to meet in person in small groups, and COVID is again not cooperating and we will do a fully virtual approach, creating virtual orchestra performances of 4 Winter Tea favorites. Again, now that we are not meeting in person, some people may want to join us and they can! Our next meeting will be TUESDAY 11/17 8:15-8:45am (before Block 5) at the regular ASR link.
It was nice to meet some of the families for conferences this past week, and I look forward to the 1-on-1 conferences coming up next week.
There are still a few slots for the 1-on-1 conferences. Check out this link .
We will have an Orchestra Open House on Wednesday 11/18 at 6:00pm.
Here is the ZOOM LINK for this event
This is for families of all 3 orchestras: Cardinal Orchestra, Sinfonia, and Symphony Orchestra
The structured program will last about 15 minutes and will include an overview of our class for Semester 1.
After the prepared portion, I will stick around until 6:45 for any and all questions.
The Band & Orchestra Boosters are offering their annual fruit sale this year in a fully contactless format. Please pass this around via email and social media--ward of scurvy and support orchestra at the same time!
Orders can be placed at the Band & Orchestra Booster web page until Sunday 11/22
